Schools are being urged to teach more about New Zealand politics.
Research from The New Zealand Initiative has revealed almost half of us don't know the requirements for a party making it into government.
And only 69 percent are able to name all five parties in Parliament.
Kapiti Coast District Council member Sophie Handford told Kate Hawkesby she learned about the electoral system outside of school, as they don't teach nearly enough about it.
Teaching politics can also involve learning about the parties, which is a really important part of politics, without influencing the way students vote.
