We recommend the establishment of a single institution to work with existing fishing clubs, associations and organisations in representing the interests of all New Zealand recreational fishers to the Government and other fishing sectors. The idea is based on the Western Australian institution Recfishwest (see http://recfishwest.org.au/about-us/ for more information). Recfishwest’s purpose is “to ensure Great Fishing Experiences for all in the WA community forever.”

* 8. We recommend switching from full Ministerial discretion in setting total allowable catch allocations (allowances) to proportional bases, if a reallocation process is in place that benefits recreational fishers and compensates commercial fishers for any unjustified losses. Do you agree?
